Books about Barns
If you are
interested in old barns there are plenty of publication to tickle
your tastebuds; they have fascinated people for a long time! There
are books for children about barns and conversational picture books
about barns; Books on renovating them or how to build them are
plentiful and books on where to find them are also for sale, or for
checking out at the local library. Magazines, particularly those
dealing with country matters, often featured articles about
renovation projects and other stories; learning more about our
heritage by reading will help us understand the history not only of
our barns but our country too.
Here are just a few
examples:
Renovating Barns, Sheds, and Outbuildings by Nick Engler
• This book describes 37 renovated homes, through pictures and
plans. The homes have the same frame as a barn but that is about the
only similarities that any reader will find. The book has a short
introduction, with pictures, and floor plans.
Tuttles Red Barn by Richard Michelson and Mary Azarian
• This book is about a family who lived on a farm in 1632. The barn
built by the family was later turned into a farm store; this is
still used today, and serves around 1,000 customers each day.
The Old Barn Book
• A popular barn photo book, this hardback shares information about
North American barns with information on other farm structures. As a
reference to barns, and other rural structures, this book gives
details in particular about the differences between Dutch and
Swedish barns and details their particular construction methods and
building styles, as well as highlighting their geographic location.
There are several other books about barns written by many different
authors listed below are just a few to consider:
The Barn by Eric
Arthur and Dudley Witneyarns, Living Barns by Ernest Burden, Barns
in the USA by Wilson L. Wells, Barn by Elric Endersby, Alexander
Greenwood, and David Larkin, The Barn Book by Carolyn Janik, Old
Barn Plans by Richard Rawson, and An Age of Barns by Eric Sloane.
